QUILT 2000 NEWSLETTER # 9

July 28, 2000

The excitement is growing and so is the list of ladies, their spouses and other friends and relatives who are going to be making the trip to Baltimore to participate in the RACE FOR THE CURE on Oct. 8. Most of us are going to arrive on the 6th so we will have lots of time to visit and get to know each other on a face to face basis. This is going to be such an exciting time in our lives! Candy and I are so excited that we are calling,

e-mailing and faxing to get information to each other and to the rest of the group.

Brenda Auer, in Baltimore has really been working hard on our behalf. She is the lady in charge of the Survivor Tent at the race. She has made many phone calls, had meetings and sent many e-mails while helping us. We all owe her a big thank you and I know all of us who are going will be doing that when we meet her. She has found us a hotel and is getting a better rate for it than any we have been able to find ourselves. She asked us not to mention the name of the hotel until she gets final written approval for it. Candy and I will notify everyone as soon as she gives us the word. Ladies, unless something changes, you are going to be pleasantly surprised.

Several of our members are going to drive to Baltimore and the rest of us are flying. Air plane reservations have been made by quite a few and one of our ladies and her husband even bought a new car for the trip…Dawn , congratulations on the purchase of the new car. Since you are bringing husband as well as your daughter and son, I'm sure that will be a comfortable way to travel. Since we won't have our own transportation in the city, I have reserved a mini-van for our stay and all who want to use it will share in the cost. It seats 7 and at this point we have 6 people signed up to share. My husband has agreed to be our chauffeur…he asked what his pay would be and I said, "Lots of big hugs from all of us!" If anyone else is interested, please let me know. The ladies who are driving in have also indicated that they would help in transporting everyone around to the race and to restaurants, etc. Lala is bringing her daughter, Tammy and her grand daughter Amy and they are also renting a car.

Diana said that the quilt will be sent to me in September so I will be bringing it "in my arms" to Baltimore. I feel so lucky to be able to be the bearer of our wonderful creation. I plan to also bring my own quilt with me …guess my hubby will have the honor of carrying it. I don't want to put either in the baggage area of the plane.

There is still time for more of you to join us on this trip. Please let either Candy or myself know if you will be able to go. We would love to have you.

The vote is in for the recipient for our quilt money. The winner by a wide margin was the Komen Foundation. The others all got some votes but Komen was the winner. We will need to contact them and let them know that we are donating the proceeds to them. Perhaps they will want to give us a little help in getting the word out before the auction so that we can make LOTS of money.
