Newest questions sent to us through this web page and answered directly by Dr. Tammy WuDate: 11-5-07 Can I ice the incision and surgery area during my recovery process?Ice is a very good idea to help reduce swelling. It would work especially well in the first three days after surgery, and would continue to work well for a week after surgery. Use ice as needed. Be careful not to fall asleep with ice over your body. Should I take Arnica Montana?Arnica is a botanical extract used in homeopathy for the treatment of muscle sprains, strains, stiffness, bruising, swelling, and tenderness. We carry Arnica pellets, Arnica gel, and Arnica cream in our office. The pellets help diminish overall swelling, and arnica pellets can be taken a few days before surgery to diminish the swelling even more. The gel or cream can be applied directly to the skin after 48 hours. Can I put anything on my scars to diminish the appearance of the scars? We recommend the following: 1. Keep the incision out of the sun and tanning beds for one year after surgery. If sun exposure is a possibility, use a good sun screen or sun block. 2. Consider using a product that we have in the office: Scar Guard. 3. Consider massaging the scar one month after your breast augmentation surgery.
Date: 12-01-07 Can I tan right after breast augmentation? You can tan if you keep your scar covered. Tanning can worsen the appearance the breast augmentation scars. You can tan over the scars after the scars mature which usually happens one year after your breast augmentation.
